Seattle Mariners trade rumors about a possible Justin Smoak trade seem to make sense for the team. After the acquisition of first baseman Kendrys Morales from the LA Angels, Smoak doesn't appear to have a spot on the roster any longer. Now a report from Monday (Dec. 24) shows that the Baltimore Orioles may turn into the perfect trading partner for the Mariners.
Smoak has never really turned into the player that Mariners fans were hoping to see when the team shipped out Cliff Lee to acquire him from the Texas Rangers. Last season he only managed a batting average of .217 to go along with 19 home runs and 51 RBIs. After two full seasons of giving him every opportunity to claim first base as his own, the team is looking towards Morales as the player to get the most playing time there.
This makes Smoak very available to the right team and if Baltimore could offer the right package of prospects it could get done very quickly. The Mariners have to do something to fix some of the problems with the offense and the next step is likely to be cutting ties with some players that have failed to perform in Safeco Field.
These Seattle Mariners trade rumors make a lot of sense for the team, but many fans will definitely worry that Justin Smoak is about to become the next ex-Mariners player to perform better in a new city.
