Seattle Mariners trade rumors: Giancarlo Stanton trade discussed with Miami (Video)

Seattle Mariners trade rumors reveal a Giancarlo Stanton trade has already been discussed with the Miami Marlins. There had been quite a few rumors suggesting that the two teams could become good trading partners, but a report from FOX Sports on Thursday (Jan. 3) states that the teams have officially chatted about Stanton.

It's important for Mariners fans not to consider these discussions as a hint that a trade is about to take place. It would take a lot for Miami to part with one of the best hitters in the game and Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik has seemed reluctant to trade some of the best prospects in baseball.

Any trade between the Mariners and Marlins would cost Seattle at least three top-tier prospects, possibly even including players like Kyle Seager in order to sweeten the deal. The reality is that Seattle would have to give up an awful lot to try Stanton away from the Marlins and that the price might just get too high.

If these Seattle Mariners trade rumors did turn into something and a Giancarlo Stanton trade with the Miami Marlins was about to go down, it could gut most of the minor league system for Seattle. It would take a group of players that would include names like James Paxton, Danny Hultzen, Brad Miller, Nick Franklin, Kyle Seager, and Taijuan Walker to even get close. While rebuilding through prospects is always a tough endeavor, that seems like a lot for Seattle to give up for one player.
