Seattle Mariners rumors: Felix Hernandez deal not done yet?

Seattle Mariners rumors have the Felix Hernandez deal unofficial at this point. The Mariners don't have a new deal with Hernandez yet, even though there have been a lot of reports a contract extension was made. According to a report from Friday (Feb. 8), all information that has been released to this point is being considered premature.

Mariners fans had been rejoicing that it looked like Hernandez was getting locked up to a long 7-year, $175 million contract that would have made him the highest paid pitcher in the history of baseball. While it is definitely still possible that the organization plans on making that happen, the earlier leaks of information aren't grounded in fact yet. The hope had been that the Mariners would be announcing something on Friday, but instead the team issued a statement about a deal not being imminent.

It really seems like there is a grain of truth to these Seattle Mariners rumors and that a new deal with Felix Hernandez is getting negotiated. How close the two sides are when it comes to money, number of years, and all the other intangibles is not something easily answered though. Now Mariners fans will simply have to hope that something gets done before the 2013 MLB season begins so that it doesn't become a distraction.
