Seattle Mariners rumors have the team introducing metal detectors to Safeco Field. It was on Tuesday (Jan. 21) that the team announced the new policies will be in place for the 2014 Major League Baseball season. According to the report, this is a move to comply with a new mandate from MLB that all teams begin a screening process before the start of the 2015 season. It's not too surprising that the franchise has decided to add additional security measures at the gates, but maybe that the team is doing it earlier than may others.

The devices themselves will be very similar to what is seen at an airport and the magnetometers will be at all the gates for fans to pass through when they enter Safeco Field. Fans can verbally opt out of passing through the metal detectors if the choice is made to be checked with a hand-held device. The hope is that none of it will add that much time to the process of simply entering the ballpark on game days. The plan is to also have them all in place for when FanFest begins on January 25.

The director of security for the team (Sylvester Servance) weighed in on the situation by stating that, "Fan safety and security is our top priority. The Mariners and Major League Baseball are keenly aware of the current security environment at public events. We believe this step is necessary, poses minimal inconvenience, and ultimately will serve the best interests of all fans."

In addition to confirming these Seattle Mariners rumors, the team also stated that the long-standing policies on bags and purses. The policy states that they cannot be larger than 16" x 16" x 8" and all are subject to being inspected right at the gates.
