  Seattle Mariners Stories

2010 MLB preview: Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners seem to have the right formula, defense, strong pitching, and run prevention. They lost 101 games in 2008, improved by 24 wins in 2009, and then went out an added an all star in fielder, and a bonified co ace to pair with Felix Hernandez. The expectations for the Mariners could not be higher, but they still have a few unanswered questions.

Mariners continue to add pieces, trade for Bradley

The Seattle Mariners seem to be involved in every big deal of this off season. They have added a ton of talent to a team that won 85 games in 2009. On top of trading for Cliff Lee, signing Chone Figgins, they have now traded for Chicago Cubs OF Milton Bradley.

2009 MLB season in review: Seattle Mariners

The 2009 Seattle Mariners were one of those teams that seemed to fly under the radar of many national MLB fans. Not very much was expected of them, and they had four of their top players playing in final years of their contracts. Even though they added Ken Griffey Jr. this was a team built around good pitching and defense, and they were able to use that formula to put together a winning record. Down the stretch they traded away one of their expiring contracts, Pitcher Jarrod Washburn, and even though he was having a fine season up to that point, he had an injury and was ineffective for the Detroit Tigers.

Seattle uses Griffey to sell tickets

This is one of those stories that will probably work out for all involved. Ken Griffey Jr. is returning to Seattle based largely on the advise of Willie Mays who told him he can secure his legacy, and complete the circle of his career by returning to the place where it all began.
