Have you ever wondered what it would be like to eat 6,500 calories a day? According to a Feb. 18 Yahoo! Sports report, Nick Franklin, a prospect for the Seattle Mariners, is eating that much every day in a desperate effort to gain weight.
Franklin, 21, was 2009 pick for the Mariner’s in the first round. He weighed 162 pounds at the end of last season and started the high calorie diet with a goal of reaching 200 pounds. The plan is working. Sources say Nick weighed in at training camp at 196.
Franklin felt his body was collapsing during the last season because he was so thin. He felt he would have more power at a heavier weight.
So what does a 6,500 calorie a day diet look like? Nick starts the day off with six scrambled eggs and a protein shake that his high in calories. He has the shakes again mid-morning, twice in the afternoon and before dinner. Lunch and dinner consist of about 1,500 calories each.
Franklin dines on Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, burrito bowls from Chipotle and pasta at The Corner Bakery. He’s working with a trainer to ensure the bulk he’s adding through his high calorie diet doesn’t impact his mobility.
