Seattle HIV vaccine trials

AIDS is leaving many children as orphans

We live in a country and a city that is filled with possibility. We get up each morning, go to work, feed our kids and love our partners. We watch the news at night, but are we really paying attention?

HIV is as large of a problem as it ever has been. HIV is everywhere, it doesn’t discriminate against whom it attacks and it will be around until something is done to stop it. These facts are easy to forget unless it happens to you or someone you love, but statistics don’t lie. An estimated 40 million people worldwide are living with HIV. One million people in the United States are infected with AIDS.   There is more than 10,000 people in Washington State living with HIV. As of 2007, Africa has about 12 million orphans because of AIDS related deaths. This is no small problem.

With a little bit of your time, effort and dedication you can be a part of helping to stop AIDS. The Seattle HIV Trials Unit (HVTU) is a part of the HIV Vaccine Network (HVTN), which is an international effort to test and find an HIV vaccine that is safe and will work in a variety of populations. Whether you have been diagnosed with HIV or not you can help. HVTU is looking for volunteers;  the specific criteria are listed on the Seattle HIV Trials Unit website.
