May 21, 2010 - Nine families are suing Proctor and Gamble because their babies suffered severe rashes, burns, and oozing blisters after using Pampers Dry max, the new thinner diaper.

Pictures taken of the babies were so bad that they are hard to look at.

Have you had problems with using the Pampers Dry Max diapers? If so, and if you'd like to share your story, you can email me at isabelle.zehnder@comcast.net.

"We're hearing frankly all kinds of horror stories," says Seattle attorney Gretchen Cappio.

Cappio is representing nine families who have decided to file suit against Proctor and Gamble. She’s received another 500 calls from parents like Jennifer Gray from North Carolina who said her one-year-old developed a severe rash after wearing the diapers.

"She would fight getting changed she would run, she would flail, would wail. it was terrible," said Gray.

Proctor and Gamble says they are investigating every claim and that the diapers were vetted by pediatricians and dermatologists. The company believes what the children are experiencing are nothing more than diaper rashes.

In a statement, Proctor and Gamble says, "We can assure the millions of parents using Dry Max Diapers that they do not cause rashes. Dry Max is safe. Baby rashes, unfortunately are very common with one in four babies having a rash at any given time."

Attorney Cappio says her clients know what a common diaper rash looks like.

"One of the treasured things about mothers is that they have really good intuition and I'd be really surprised if this was just a coincidence," says Cappio.

More than 1,400 mothers have taken their complaints to Facebook, calling for the diapers to be pulled from the market.

Cappio says that’s what her clients want as well.

"Secondly, the parents want their money back for buying a product that is useless to them," Cappio says. "And the parents want their medical expenses paid by Proctor and Gamble."

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is also investigating the claims: 1-800-638-2772

A 24-hour hotline has been set up to take calls from parents who have experienced problems: 1-800-PAMPERS

I purchased from Target Pamper Cruisers with Dry Max diapers on a Friday and by Monday Night my son was covered in what the Doctors told me was a chemical Rash As kids do, they tend to grab at their diapers and just from touching the diapers and then his face or his mouth (as he uses a binky) the rash spread. After one of the RN's at the ER mentioned seeing on CNN that Pampers with Dry Max were being sued She asked me what kind of diapers I was using, I was using those same diapers. I immediately threw them all AWAY and told every mother/aunt/grandma/sister/friend I knew that had kids to STOP using these diapers. As soon as I stopped the Rash started to clear up. I have pictures if anyone needs them (2 days after the breakout) and my son is still healing up from the drama.

    It was aweful.

When my 6 month old grew into size 3 diapers, I ordered Pampers Swaddlers with Dry Max. Within 10 days he had a severe burn all over his bottom and his scrotum. He screamed when I tried to wipe him clean and only calmed down once I put Butt Paste all over the affected area. When my Mom told me that there was a problem with the DryMax, I stopped using them immediately and as soon as I switched, the rash went away. I've called P&G to complain and I recommend others doing the same - 1-800-Pampers.
