Seattle area hit by snowstorm

In the Seattle-Tacoma area, the predicted snowstorm has hit with a vengeance.

News reporters are driving throughout the city, reporting on spinouts, collisions and bus routes.

Weatherman Paul Deanno on KOMO 4 news said, “We still have a lot of snow, but are in the process of it slowing down.”

Snohomish County is still getting snow, and the storm seems to be moving north. Almost every single school in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area is closed for the day.

“Greater Seattle area snow is stopping, but not finished yet,” said Deanno.

Ten to 16” of snow is reported in Olympia and 12 to 20 inches of snow in Chehalis.

“Tomorrow morning could see a couple of snow showers,” said Deanno, and “rain on Friday. However, this snow won’t be gone soon,” he said, “this is a lot of snow.”

Local news reporters are staying on the job throughout the day and say they will continue to report until 1 p.m., and then come back on for early evening news.

Reporters say Snoqualmie Pass has just reopened and added, “32” of snow in the past two days. You don’t want to be driving up there now.”

Most people in the area decided to stay home for the day, but accidents continue to occur. The Southcenter area is reporting several accidents on 405.

Stevens Pass reported two feet of new snow and news reporters says they will get more snow over the weekend. Skiers are making every attempt to reach Stevens Pass for good skiing, said the reporter.

“We’re not done yet,” said Deanno, “but we’re getting there.”

Washington State Trooper Keith Leary advised drivers that, “4 x 4 vehicles are not immune. If you do drive, wear your seat belts and use common sense.”

The winter storm warning is still up until 8 p.m. tonight. Relief will then be in sight for locals, but the storm is moving now to Eastern Washington.
