Seasonal temperatures Wednesday during the day but snow and cold arrive tonight

Denver will enjoy a relatively pleasant day today but only for the first part. Mother Nature is set to deliver a quick return to wintry conditions with snow tonight and some cold temperatures.

The day will start out mostly clear but clouds will be building through the day as a cold front starts working its way closer. Temperatures will climb steadily to highs in town in the mid-40s, a degree or two above average for the date (44°).

That high will be reached relatively early then as the front pushes through, temperatures will begin to drop in the afternoon. Overnight lows tonight will be in the teens, single digits in some locations.

Snow will arrive late today into tonight with some flurries possible starting in the early evening. We expect it to begin in earnest after 8:00 p.m. with the best chances coming by 11:00 p.m. Look for the snow to continue until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning then taper off.

Models are indicating total accumulations of 1 to 2 inches on the plains with 2 to 4 inches in town. Coupled with the cold temperatures, it may very well be a slick and messy commute Thursday morning.

Thursday is going to remain chilly with high temperatures staying below freezing. Friday will start a nice rebound with temperatures back into the 50s and Saturday and Sunday may exceed 60 degrees.
