Seasonal sensations at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation (Photos)

The stunning Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, located in Greensboro, Georgia, an hour and a half east of Atlanta, may be known for its luxe lakeside setting and five championship golf courses (designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio), but that doesn’t mean that when cold weather sets in it’s any less desirable. Just the opposite. For in addition to its world-class accommodations and regularly scheduled activities such as Segway tours of the surrounding Lake Country and s’mores served nightly around a roaring campfire, you’ll find a host of seasonal features that combine to create an inviting winter retreat.

For one, from late November to mid-February, you can strap on a pair of skates and practice your spins and twirls on the 5,000-square-foot ice skating rink. (This year the rink will be up through February 24; skating is complimentary for hotel guests, otherwise it’s $40 per four-hour session for adults, $30 per child). Afterward, to ward off the chill, you can savor a cup of hot cocoa or warm apple cider.

You can also take advantage of four new “Fire & Ice” treatments at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge’s upscale spa. Available through February, the limited-time-only rituals are designed to not only soothe and pamper, but help battle the elements. Here’s a short description:

Hot Toddy for the Body – A whiskey-infused sugar scrub and hot Vichy shower melt away post-holiday and winter stress. A warm honey glaze is then applied to smooth and hydrate the skin, and the body is wrapped in cool linens that have been soaked in an orange and apple juice tea infused with aromatic spices. The indulgence ends with a cup of hot tea or cider. 50 minutes, $165; 80 minutes with massage, $215

Red Hots & Peppermint Couples Massage – Warm up with a soak in a spicy, cinnamon-scented bath. Then receive tension-easing massages featuring the cool refreshment of peppermint essence. The combination helps fight winter congestion and leaves the two of you smelling delicious. To complete your treatment, toast each other with cups of fragrant hot cinnamon and peppermint tea. 75 minutes, $375; 105 minutes, $495

Fire & Ice Facial – This detoxifying facial leaves skin glowing and firm. A hot stimulating mask composed of nettle is applied to increase circulation and encourage collagen growth. Then a mask containing aloe and arnica is applied to cool and calm the skin, leaving it smooth and radiant. Thermal waters are used to remineralize the skin. 50 minutes, $135

Warm Stone Pedicure – This deluxe pedicure is highlighted by an orange peel scrub, which is rich in argan oil for deep hydration. Your feet and legs are then given a warm stone massage to soothe tired limbs, followed by an application of shea butter cream to soften and protect the skin. 50 minutes, $85
