Season Ticket Watch: Salt Lake Acting Company

Salt Lake Acting Company’s 2009-2010 season offers premieres and classics, as well as laughs and deep thoughts. They start out the year with Harold Pinter’s “The Caretaker” (Sept. 16-Oct. 11), which director John Vreek calls “an emotional roller coaster ride.” Next are two shows that will be performed in the Chapel Theatre – “Master Class” (Oct. 14-Nov. 8), a comedic romp featuring opera diva Maria Callas, and “Go Dog, Go” (Dec. 2-27), SLAC’s first play for children adapted from the classic book (both plays can be added on to season tickets for small fees).

In February (3-28) the action is back on the main stage with “Too Much Memory,” a modern adaptation of Antigone that draws on current politics. April 14-May 9 has “Charm,” a comedic look at a 19th century feminist and the frustration we all share about many of society’s rules. As always, the season ends with “Saturday’s Voyeur,” which next year will run from June to August 29.

If you’re interested in all 4 plays, SLAC season tickets offer both a nice discount ($95 for a preview night season ticket, for example, versus $108 if you buy the tickets individually) and some extras (the opening night package, the most expensive at $146, includes an intermission party). Plus, the season tickets include all the usual benefits such as ticket exchanges and assured seats, which is especially useful for the wildly popular “Saturday's Voyeur.”

Students get a special treat, with a $56.00 student season ticket for all five plays. Also new this year is a package of designed for theater students. It includes matinees of four plays, followed by discussions with actors, directors, playwrights and designers that cover the play, the creative process, and the business aspects of a life in the theater. The total package costs just $32.
