With Plan-B Theatre, season tickets aren’t nearly as valuable for their discount potential as they are for their access to seats – every single one of the theater’s 2008-2009 shows were completely sold out, and seats for “And the Banned Slammed On” always go particularly fast. As a season ticket holder, you’re one of the first in line for every show.
Next year’s shows look like an interesting assortment, a series of world premieres touching on fantasy, history, and politics. First up is the theater’s fifth annual Radio Hour – “Alice.” Done in partnership with KUER, Matthew Ivan Bennett’s “Alice” features what is supposed to be a very dark take on Wonderland. Next is Jenifer Nii and Debora Threedy’s “Wallace,” the intertwining stories of Western author Wallace Stegner and Harlem Renaissance inspiration (and, surprisingly, Salt Lake native) Wallace Thurman. Then comes Eric Samuelsen’s “Amerigo,” a conversation between Amerigo Vespucci, Niccolo Machiavelli and others on the nature of what it means to be an American. Then, finally, there’s “And the Banned Slammed On,” a night of brand-new plays about censorship in Utah.
Season ticket packages include all four plays and are $87, and can be purchased either by phone (801-297-4200) or online. That’s a small discount for all but the cheapest “Banned” seats - regular plays are $20, with “Banned” seats going from $25 to $40 (student tickets are $10). Otherwise, think of the couple of extra dollars as a small contribution towards helping independent theater stay strong.
