Nobody knows how to throw a party quite like Las Vegas! From premieres to some pretty amazing charity events, there’s something amazing happening almost every week (and sometimes more). Interested in hitting up a semi-private event and doing some good? Then read on!
While there are plenty of people who think Las Vegas is nothing but a city of sin, they need to think again. Las Vegas is home to some fantastic charities and a compassionate community of local residents and businesses. With special charity events ranging from poker tournaments to black tie affairs, there’s always a good time to be had and a great cause to support.
One of the biggest organizations in town, ThreeSquare, hosted a canned food drive at Caramel Lounge in the Bellagio this past week. If you missed out, there are still plenty of opportunities to help! Freed’s Bakery on Eastern and Tropicana is hosting Cupcakes for cans until November 24. Bring in a canned good to the bakery and they’ll trade it for a freshly baked cupcake!
Looking to help out but want a little nightlife action too? Then check out ThreeSquare’s Taste of Thanks event at Hennessey’s Tavern on Fremont Street! Tickets are $30 each and include food and wine samplings from local vendors!
Also, this week and next week, several clubs from Pure Management are getting in on the giving back! Bring in two cans of food (which will be donated to ThreeSquare) and get free entry to Pure (Tuesday November 17 and 24), Coyote Ugly (Tuesday November 17 and 24), LAX (Wednesday November 18 and 25), and Christian Audigier (Sunday November 22).
And that’s not all! If charity events have you thinking of school auditoriums and church gymnasiums, think again! Vegas charity events are thrown in true Vegas style with red carpets, celebrity sightings, and the whole nine yards.
For instance, the AFAN Black and White Party at the Hard Rock Hotel took place in August and was a huge event. As a perfect example of a compassionate business, the Hard Rock moved the event into the Joint within three hours (heavy rain and wind caused the event to be moved indoors from its original venue, the pool)! The property also offered room deals and meal deals in conjunction with the party. With food and alcohol samples from numerous sponsors, the event was a perfect way to raise money (sponsors included Ago, Rare 120, Pink Taco, Outback Steakhouse, Dos Caminos, Boa, Ketel 1, Jose Cuervo, Fiji, The Cupcakery, the Cookie Zoo, TYKU, and Trader Joe’s)! Event tickets cost only $35 for great food, lots to drink, and some wonderful entertainment from DJ Axis and acts like Men of X and X Burlesque. Check out the AFAN page for more info on their events and check back for the next Black and White Party in 2010!
The Celebrity Poker Tournament presented by Opportunity Village presents another great event annually. While you may not be interested in poker, in recent years, the event has included a VIP reception at Pure with an admission cost of around $50, pretty good for a private party, especially when your money goes to a great cause! The reception hosts a small gourmet buffet, a great fashion show, and a silent auction sponsored by some of the valley’s great businesses. Information for next year’s event has not yet been posted so check the website early next year to see if the reception is still open to the public. Though this event has already passed for the year, check out next year’s tournament and the Opportunity Village website for other great events!
