Season 6 finale brings 'The Guild' full circle

Felicia Day's popular web series, “The Guild,” completed its sixth season on Tuesday and left fans speculating if one of the shows that pioneered the genre may have aired its last episode.

The Guild” is the flagship show for Day's YouTube channel, “Geek and Sundry.” Day has been writing, producing and starting in the show since creating it in 2007, and she is credited as one of the inspirations for Joss Whedon's “Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog,” which she also starred in.

Season six began with the episode, “Dream Questline,” which featured Day's character, Codex, as self-assured and ready to take on new challenges. The next ten episodes featured more challenges than she had bargained for, and fans of the show who wait until entire seasons are up before watching have many exciting surprises in store as the characters grow in unexpected ways.

The season finale, “End Game,” had a few surprises of its own, but what fans have reacted to the most is the finality of it. While some of the characters achieved major victories, others were left with their threads hanging. It is clear that Codex, who has been narrating the entire series, has found what she needed the most: the friendships offered within the guild. As she walked away from her computer and the end music played, fans began nervously asking if the show they love is over. Is there going to be a season seven?

Day took some time out from her duties as Entertainment Matters Ambassador at the International CES, a consumer electronics trade show, to Tweet: “Thank you for all of the wonderful comments on the Guild s6 finale, all. We will see what the future holds.”

While Day refuses to confirm or deny that the series is over, the cast and crew that were interviewed for “The Guild Behind-the-Scenes” seemed unanimous in their enthusiasm to continue the show. Add that to Day announcing in Monday's episode of “The Flog” that she has “some cool secret projects” in the works, and it would seem that 2013 is going to be another very big year for the redheaded geek icon.
