The 37th Annual Seaside Half Marathon and 5k are scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2014. The event has been staged over those years by volunteers from the Ocean Running Club with help from various local volunteer groups.
This is an event that should be on every runner’s calendar. In addition to the half marathon there is also a 5K.
Sunday, October 19, 5k at 9:30 a.m. and Half Marathon at 9 a.m., Seaside Half Marathon and 5k, Seaside Heights, N.J.
Last year a few weeks before the race a large fire destroyed about the first half mile of the boardwalk where the race traditionally starts as well as making the Sawmill unusable where the registration, check in and post-race activities were already planned to occur.
The club did not give up although it surely could have been excused had they done so. An alternate course was developed, a new meeting location at the Beachcomber was arranged and the essentially the entire event had to be reworked. The race with lots of last minute modifications went off successfully and was a tribute to the hard work of all the volunteers.
This year the boardwalk has been rebuilt so it should provide for the more traditional start and finish on the Seaside Heights boardwalk.
The race is also a great bargain and you get more than your money’s worth particularly if you take advantage of early registration which ends on September 22. All pre registrants by September 22 will get a sweatshirt this year. All finishers get medals and a great post-race party at the Beachcomber.
Sign up on line for the half by September 22, 2014 for only $45.00 (and bona fide Ocean Running Club members can take advantage of special member rates.) Compare that to other half marathons! The 5K pre registration rate is only $25.
If you don’t pre-register race day registration for both events opens at 7:00 a.m, at the Beachcomer, Bar & Grill 100 Ocean Terrace, Seaside Heights New Jersey between Ocean Terrace & DuPont Avenue (On the Boardwalk). Sweatshirt not guaranteed.
