The 36th Annual Seaside Half Marathon and 5k are scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2013. The event has been staged over those years by volunteers from the Ocean Running Club with help from various local volunteer groups.
The fire that swept through the Seaside Heights and Seaside Park boardwalks last month presented some serious logistical issues for the organizers.
Led by Race Director, Patty Hancock of Toms River the club went to work devising alternatives and adjustments needed to stage the events.
According to Patty, “we at Ocean Running Club were upset about the fire and the boardwalk burning down, but how could we think about the race when people’s businesses were burning, as if the storm wasn't enough.”
Patty and the club did get to work and according to her, “With a new registration home at the Beachcomber who stepped up to help out , some changes in the course, and with the help from all the great people who offered to volunteer on race day we are a go with the 36th Seaside Half Marathon & 5K.”
