Searching for truth and pursuing freedom: Why J.D. Hayworth will not be better for Arizona

This election year in Arizona promises to be exciting to say the least, many in Cochise County are looking at the various candidates running, and asking, “What are we going to do?” All I can say is make sure you understand what and whom you are voting for. And than we must VOTE, above all get out there when the primaries roll around and VOTE for the BEST candidate for the position.

I have heard various arguments for why Hayworth is a better candidate than McCain most of all what I have heard is the following, “Hayworth has the experience needed to defeat John McCain.” However, is this enough, is this really the only reason we want to vote for a person to replace another. As an independent investigative journalist, it is my job to seek the answers and see as much of the truth while putting it out there for you the readers and voters.

So let us do a little backtracking to see where these two candidates stand. In 1999, a little Act of Congress called the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999, or as many of us know it, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act was passed that allowed many large banks and investment firms to become larger and to utilize risky methods of investment and financial changes. Many of these financial “differences” helped to bring about the current recession (i.e. Depression) that we are in today. Foremost among those voting for this Act of Congress was, than Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth as well as Senator John McCain. The proof can be seen on GovTrack.com.

Next, we can go to that wonderful Act of Congress that has allowed our public schools to become educational facilities meant to keep all of our children average and to ensure that they are unable to compete when faced with real life. Yes, that Act of Congress was called the No Child Left behind Act of 2001, again voting Yeah for Arizona was the than Congressman J.D. Hayworth, and Senator John McCain. (Voting record seen here.)

Lastly, there was that annoying little Act of Congress passed in 2002, which went against the Constitution and allowed “Homeland Security” as we know it to exist. Now as we all know here in Arizona this agency is headed by our “wonderful” ex-Governor and as an agency is doing everything it can to ensure you and I do not get to exercise our rights as citizens. Anyone care to guess who voted Yeah for this Act of Congress? You guess it, J.D. Hayworth and John McCain. (Voting record seen here.)

Now do not get me wrong, I am sure Hayworth would at least try to be a good Senator, however, is he the best choice we have available? There is one other choice running today, Jim Deakin, and yes, he is someone with no political experience. However, he is also someone who is running a true grassroots campaign and doing so very well, he is running on integrity and NOT a radio shows “oomph.”

So regardless of what you believe, always make sure you understand exactly whom you are voting for and why, J.D. Hayworth will be just another John McCain just look to the voting record!

You know I didn't even realize Cochise County was in AZ. My parents and brother live in AZ...but don't ask me which county.

It would help--at least I think it would help--if people like J. D. Hayworth were willing to re-examine their past votes, give a good reason for them, and if they have no good reason, to apologize.

But too many professionals tell their clients not to apologize.

I agree that J. D. Hayworth has some explaining to do.

Maybe the best thing he can do is go ahead and throw his support behind Jim Deakin. That way, J. D. keeps his talk-radio gig, and you get a candidate you can trust.

As a lifelong Arizonan (though currently living in the Philly area) J.D Hayworth scares me. And I think Arizona needs someone other than Senator McCain. How about his daughter?

Good points. They sound like two sides of the same coin. It's time to stop voting for "the lesser of evils" and instead put up candidates whose past record proves they WILL protect and defend the Constitution of the United States as they swear to do... people of integrity who can't and won't be "bought" or bribed with porky promises.

The more encouragement for "informed voting" the better.

    great article Jesse.
if only more people would wake up and realize this.
wrong is wrong no matter its affiliation, and the lesser of two evils is still evil.

JD has been on the sidelines for months. Why? When Deakin saw the writing on the wall, along with many Americans and Tea Party folks, he stood up and volunteered to get our country back without hesitation. A real patriotic act I will say. But JD had to test the waters first. Did he want to be sure that he could make a successful challenge against McCain? This thought is self-serving, it is not Patriotic. Is this JD? I s'pose only JD can answer that.

I'm a long time libertarian, but the stakes are too high to throw away my vote on a losing candidate. First of all, from what I know about Deakin, he does not have the capacity to be a true leader - I've talked to lots of tea party folks who have known him for the last year who he has alienated through brash behavior. Second, Deakin has NO name recognition and no funding. He has raised less than $10,000 in an entire year of campaigning and only has 6k signatures. If you've been following JD's website, he's raised over $250,000 in 1 month.

This isn't a lesser of evils thing, JD has an excellent record, despite a few bad votes. I am putting all my support behind JD.

    Jesse,

Apparently you have missed out on JD Hayworth's recurring "mea culpa" regarding prior service and how his return to private life and getting back in touch with citizens and the community has had a profound impact on his focus and commitment to public service?

Perhaps you missed the last four years of radio broadcasting in which he made his conservative views well know across the State of Arizona?

Now the most important point of my comment. I challenge everyone to tell me how Jim Deakin is going to win this race. Show me the math. Show me the numbers. Jim Deakin barely has any money. Jim Deakin cannot raise money (did anyone see his recent appeal asking for $5000 to pay for his expenses?) I have been involved in Arizona politics for over 20 years and I will tell you that it takes money to win a race. It takes name ID to win a race. Jim Deakin has neither.

That doesn't mean that Jim Deakin is not a good guy. The bottom line is that he cannot win and will be a spoiler

  • Shane Wikfors 2 years ago

The question Jim Deakin (and his wife) have to ask themselves is do they want to be forever known as the spoiler who got John McCain re-elected? If I were Jim Deakin, I would not want my good name tied up with the likes of John Anderson, Ross Perot and Ralph Nader.
