Robin L. Pope, 51, of Stevensville, Md., a white female, 5”4”, 105 lbs., with brown hair, was last seen late on the night of March 1 in the 100-block of Beach Road, Stevensville, where she had lived with her husband in their Chesapeake Bay waterfront home until last December when the couple separated, according to the Maryland State Police.
The estranged husband reported her missing to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office early on the morning of March 2.
He said his wife had come to the home Friday night to retrieve some belongings. After she arrived, he left the home. When he returned early Saturday morning, his wife’s black 2011 Infinity was still in the driveway, but she was not at the residence.
Adding to the mysterious disappearance of Ms. Pope is that the Pope family dog, an 11-year-old Great Dane, was found dead Saturday in the water along the shoreline near a pier at a neighboring home.
A Queen Anne’s County veterinarian examined the dog today and found there were no external traumatic injuries to the dog. The veterinarian said the dog did not drown, nor did it die from external injuries. The dog had large tumors in its upper torso region. An exact cause of death has not been determined and additional tests are underway.
Police now say it’s possible it may just be a giant coincidence the dog died on the same day its owner disappeared. ~ CBS News
This morning, divers with the Natural Resources Police returned to the Chesapeake Bay in the area behind the Pope home. They were assisted by a Natural Resources Police boat equipped with sonar that will be scanning the waters of the Bay.
A search will also be taking place on land.
Trained citizen search team volunteers from the Delmarva region and Cecil County are on Kent Island and will be searching the region around the Pope home. They are working with State Police Homicide Unit investigators and Forensic Sciences Division crime scene technicians in a coordinated search of the area, looking for any clues related to the disappearance of Ms. Pope.
