Search continues for body of Kira Trevino; husband pleads not guilty to murder

Minnesota man Jeffery Trevino, 39, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his missing wife, Kira Trevino, 30, according to an April 1, 2013 CBS News report.

In the meantime, friends, family, and volunteers continue to search for Kira, who authorities presume is dead due to the large amount of blood found in her home and car.

Trevino was charged on Feb. 28 with two counts of second degree murder in her death.

Kira, 30, was last seen on the night of Feb. 21 leaving work at the Mall of America.

According to the original complaint, a surveillance camera at a gas station near the couple’s home caught a man pumping gas into Kira’s car at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 22. The man then drove the vehicle toward Interstate 35E instead of taking a direct route back to the couple's home. The footage is too grainy to clearly identify the man in the video.

At 9:45 a.m. that morning, a security camera shows Kira’s car enter the parking lot at the Mall of America. The image is not clear enough to identify the driver, but shows someone at the back of the vehicle throw something, leave the car, and then get into a taxi cab. The cab had GPS and dropped the individual off near Kira’s house.

Reports indicate that when police searched the Trevino home on Feb. 25, they found blood spatter on a bookshelf in the master bedroom, on the bedroom door, around the closet door moulding, on the bed frame, and the carpet. In addition, the box spring of the bed was broken and contained blood spatter. DNA analysis determined the blood was Kira’s.

On March 23, 2013, authorities confirmed using DNA that the blood found on a pillow in mid-March near Keller Lake in Maplewood belongs to Kira, according to Twin Cities. The pillow was found in a sealed back, along with a shirt, a sponge, and a sports bra.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Kira’s case to call the tip line at 651-560-3277.
