Search continues for 2 robbers who shot, killed man after he tells wife to run

Police on Tuesday continued their search for two men who shot and killed a man last week in Hapeville.

And Crime Stoppers are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the man’s killers.

Around 9:45 p.m. officers responded to a home on Dorsey Road after getting a call about shots fired, according to Hapeville police.

They found the victim lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound, police spokesman Sgt. Barry Barnes said.

Mr. Stuart Walton died while en route to Atlanta Medical Center, he said.

Investigators said Mr. Stuart and his wife were returning to their home on Dorsey Road when they were approached by two suspects armed with handguns.

“One of the suspects told her husband to ‘just open the door and get in the house,’” Sgt. Barnes said. “Her husband then told her to “'Run, run away.'”

The woman then heard a gunshot. Mr. Walton was apparently shot while attempting to escape, Sgt. Barnes said.

Now detectives are looking at video footage from the immediate area for additional evidence.

Neighbor Ms. Tyria Young told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the man collapsed in her driveway.

“This is just really sad,” she said, “when people just take for granted human life … you feel like if you go out and work for [a living], everybody else should do the same thing … it doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s just nuts. It’s nonsense.”

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for the reward of up to $2,000.
