The final episode of Season 17 of The Bachelor aired on ABC Monday, March 11, 2013, and ended with Sean Lowe down on one knee proposing to Catherine Giudici. She said, "Yes!"
The Final Rose episode was loaded with emotion and drama as Sean was still debating over which girl to choose after both girls met his family, only days before the Final Rose ceremony.
Catherine was the first girl to meet the parents and made quite an impression on both of Sean's parents. Catherine was emotional when talking to Sean's dad, especially after he told her that if she married Sean he would be her biggest fan. Catherine's relationship with her own father is not good since his suicide attempt years ago.
Lindsay Yenter, the other finalist, also made a huge impression on the family and left mom and dad unable to make a choice or shed any light on which girl Sean should choose. This only added to Sean's turmoil.
Sean next took Lindsy out for a final date. The couple got cozy on a flatbed raft and chatted it up with a few kissing sessions as they were paddled down the river. I thought that Sean's body language was a bit telling as he didn't act like he was head over hills in love with Lindsy. However, he did tell her that he thought she would be a hot chick when she was old. This statement led Lindsay to believe that she was "the one".
The next day Sean had his last date with Catherine. This date included a ride through Thailand on top of an elephant. Catherine opened up and told Sean that she was truly in love with him. The date ended with a glass of wine in Catherine's room and Sean said his goodbyes--that is until Catherine runs out the door and after him for another kiss saying she doesn't want him to leave.
Catherine finally lets him go and returns to her room and cries on her bed.
The Final Rose ceremony is the following day and Sean finds himself very emotional about having to tell one of the girls goodbye. he remembers how he felt when Emily Maynard let him go on The Bachelorette and doesn't want to hurt anyone. Sean had made his mind up at this point as to which of the girls to choose and was all set to deliver the bad news to.....
Lindsay was the first girl to arrive and shared her thoughts on his selection as she walked toward Sean in a shimmering silver dress. She was full of confidence and very happy thinking this would be the day she got engaged. It wasn't to happen that way though, as Sean slowly told Lindsay that he had chosen Catherine without giving Lindsay any solid reason for the choice. Lindsay said it was "ok", didn't cry, but instead took her heels off in a classic move that Bachelor Nation fans will remember for years to come and walked away. Lindsay did shed tears in the limo upon her exit, but really held it together at the ceremony.
Before Catherine arrives, Chris Harrison delivers a letter to Sean that leaves a puzzled look on his face. Of course, the network cuts to a commercial and leaves fans sitting of the edge of their seats at this time in the show. It turns out the letter teased in clips for the last few weeks is from Catherine and Sean immediately thinks she has changed her mind and will not even be coming to the ceremony. But instead, Catherine has penned a nice little love note and tells Sean she can't wait to be his wife. Smile.
Catherine arrived soon after the letter episode in a long golden dress that looked great on her with her dark hair and dark skin tone. They exchange compliments on each others appearance before Sean gets down to business and tells Catherine how much he loves her and then down on one knee to propose. Catherine accepts, and then accepts the final rose as Sean hugs and kisses her.
I found it really cute that Catherine was so thrilled over the engagement that she didn't even look at the ring as Sean put it on her finger. Sean had to ask her several minutes later if she liked the ring. Who wouldn't love a big engagement ring from Neil Lane?
The ending was very romantic as an elephant arrives to take the happy couple away. What a fine ending for this season of The Bachelor.
