Sean Hannity endorses Ga Rep. Jack Kingston for U.S. Senate

Today, conservative radio talk show host and FOX News host Sean Hannity endorsed Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga) in the Georgia Republican Senate primary. Kingston represents Georgia's first congressional district.

“I have known Jack Kingston for 20 years,” Hannity said in a statement. “He’s a solid Ronald Reagan Republican and my choice in the Georgia Senate race. Jack will join the conservative coalition in the U.S. Senate.”

Hannity lived and worked in Atlanta in the 90's, when he took over a radio slot on WGST after libertarian show host Neal Boortz.

Georgia race for the U.S. Senate seat, vacated by retiring Republican Saxby Chambliss, is one of the most watched 2014 races. The once tradition GOP stronghold, Georgia's changing demographics might turn the conservative state for Democrats. And Democrats need Georgia's seat, among a couple of others, to keep their majority in the Senate.

There are seven candidates running in the Republican primary: U.S. Reps. Jack Kingston, Phil Gingrey and Paul Broun; former Secretary of State of Georgia Karen Handel, former CEO of Dollar General David Perdue, and patent attorney Art Gardner.

The high profile endorsement comes shortly after former Alaska Governor and Hannity's friend Sarah Palin endorsed Handel in the same race. Palin called Handel "the only choice if we want something done," and quoted Margaret Thatcher in her statement: "If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman."

While the May 20th GOP primary might be very competitive and will most certainly end in a runoff to be held on July 22, the general election (most likely) against Democrat Michelle Nunn is set to gain the most attention.

Analysts believe it is imperative for Republicans to choose a strong candidate with a main-stream appeal, or they stand a chance of losing the seat. Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball changed its prediction from "likely Republican" to "leaning Republican" for the Georgia Senate seat race few weeks ago, and also painted Kingston as the most reliable GOP candidate.

"Democrats probably can only win the open seat in Georgia if Republicans nominate a poor candidate here, like firebreathing Reps. Paul Broun (R, GA-10) or Phil Gingrey (R, GA-11), both of whom are capable of kicking away a race with cringe-worthy verbal missteps," said Crystal Ball blog last month. "Michelle Nunn (D) would undoubtedly prefer to face one of them, although Republicans are hopeful that neither candidate could survive an eventual runoff against an establishment candidate such as Rep. Jack Kingston (R, GA-1)."
