Like the rest of us, Sean “Diddy” Combs has had embarrassing childhood moments thatare better off shoved under the rug. But big bad Combs, known for his music, rapping and clothing, came clean on the "Ellen" show recently confessing his bed wetting problem as a kid. Not only has he confessed to an issue known to more than 6 million children, he is blaming it on the sugar laden Kool-Aid he drank as a kid. Well, he may be on to something. Combs said that switching to water was the reason his bed wetting issue subsided. Switching to water may help, but not necessarily the total cure for nocturnal enuresis, a mishap occurring around age 4 for some and continuing until age 7. After age 7, if problem still exists, it may be time for a visit to the doctor.
There are several ways to treat the issue, according to the Mayo Clinic, which may work:
- Limiting beverages after 7PM.
- Waking a child periodically throughout the night.
- Medications.
- Homeopathic and herbal therapy.
- Chiropractic treatment.
- Diet.
Diet can have a powerful impact on bed wetting. Like Combs, switching from a sugary drink to plain old water can help. A child may not realize having sensitivities to sugar. Other food items may play a part as well. If a child suffers from bed wetting, stuffy nose, eczema, ear aches or digestive issues, food allergies may be the culprit. Children left untreated with food allergies may have serious and chronic health problems as they age.
Controlling food sensitivities consist of testing the child, then sometimes retesting, food journals, avoidance and rotating the diet. Sometimes food allergies are nothing but a reaction to certain food and beverage combinations. Withdrawing certain foods one at a time may help see if food is an issue.
Reducing or getting rid of:
- Artificial coloring and flavorings.
- Wheat, nuts, soy and chocolat.e
- Dairy--In a study of 100 children according to the book,”Allergy Relief & Prevention,” half stopped bed wetting when milk was removed from diet.
Also, check to see if child is craving a certain food item. This may be the one food item that the child is sensitive to. Always, consider supervision of a medical care provider for proper diagnosis.
Combs advice is on the right track. Combs was on the Ellen DeGeneres show recently, along with Mark Walberg, endorsing a superior water product, Aqua Hydrate--an ultra-purified water that has added over 72 electrolytes, minerals and brings the PH balance to harmony.
