Sean Chambers is coming to Blind Willie's tomorrow, December 12, and to Darwin's in Marietta on December 13. We will be seeing him at Darwin's. So I was especially excited to review his most recent CD, The Rock House Sessions.
This is the first CD Chambers has recorded as a solo artist with some very talented studio musicians rather than as the Sean Chambers Band. It begins with a blast with "World on Fire," which combines a desperate plea for the world with a blazingly intense performance that does not let up in the next numbers, "Since I've Been Down." and "Healing Ground." These three songs are pretty dark lyrically, but things lighten up both lyrically and in intensity with "Meant to Be" and the funky version of the classic "Come to Poppa." He offers a less blistering song again with "Holding On" and then gives us the purely blues-rock and light-hearted devilry of "Just For a Thrill." "Money in a Minute" really shows off the musical skills of all the musicians and "It Hurts to See You Go" is a solid number too Then comes "Choo Choo Mama," a full-on rush of rock that is just plain fun and definitely one of my favorite tracks on the CD.
There is not a number on the CD that will not please your ears. It is likely tp find a perminent home in your cd player. And if chambers brings this sort of energy and intensity to his live performances, all if us who go out to see him this weekend are in for a major treat.
