A major airline realignment begins this week at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport when three airline ticket counters make a move of about 1,000 feet north. The three airlines are American, Frontier and JetBlue. It's the first in a bit of musical airplanes that's happening behind the scenes to change the locations of several airlines. They will eventually move their gate locations as well. Here's the schedule of airline counter moves, with plenty of signage directing flyers to the new counters:
- Tuesday, January 15 - American
- Wednesday, January 16 - Frontier
- Friday, January 18 - JetBlue
The moves will align ticket counters with the coordinating baggage systems so bags may be transferred to new gate locations and passengers will be closer to their gates. The next major ticket counter move will be United shifting to the south end of the terminal in May 2013.
Realignment Details
The reason for the realignment is to allow Alaska Airlines to be the sole user of the North Satellite. This causes a domino effect of other airline gate moves that will be completed in May. They include:
- Alaska Airlines from Concourse D to the North Satellite (operations will continue on Concourse C with some continuing on Concourse D)
- United, SkyWest and Air Canada Jazz from the North Satellite to Concourse A
- Hawaiian from Concourse A to the South Satellite
- Virgin America and Frontier from Concourse A to Concourse B
- American and jetBlue from Concourse A to Concourse D
