Sea Isle City Happy Hours: La Costa Lounge

The dog days of summer are finally here and luckily for you, I have the ideal place to get a little relief. I have been to just about every Sea Isle City Happy Hour and none of them has come close to equaling what LaCosta throws down on a daily basis. It is in the perfect location, offers cheap prices with quite a bit of variety, and even has a few tasty meal deals to go along with the booze!

LaCosta Lounge (4000 Landis Avenue) is smack in the middle of town and is probably one of the best-known spots in Sea Isle City. For years, I stayed away from here because it was a much younger crowd. When the owners filled in the outside pool and converted it to a bar, everything changed. Do not get me wrong, it still fills up with sub-30-year-olds, but there is also a nice mix of us older folks in there ready to have a good time.

Inside, the bar usually has some type of entertainment on a nightly basis. The kids are in there tearing up the dance floor and the outside bar is usually jamming as well. I am not generally one for bigger crowds, so I prefer the outside bar as there is plenty of space to mingle and enjoy yourself.

It is hard to find another establishment in town that offers the daily specials LaCosta has. The O.D. has "no shower happy hour" and some decent food specials, but this blows them out of the water. Just about every day of the week features a $2 or less beer, frozen drink specials, $15 premium buckets and great deals on food. My favorite day of the week is Monday, as you can get 2-for-1 Snow Crabs all day.

To be honest, I was not expecting much the first time I popped in for the food specials. I had never eaten there before and expected average food at best. We ordered the Snow Crab special and were pleasantly surprised to find three huge sides of crabs in each order. If I had to guess, I would say it was about three pounds of crab in all, for only $20! Not only was there plenty of crab, it was also top-notch. The sides were plump full of meat with not a dud in the bunch. Seriously, this is something you would have expected at a restaurant dedicated to serving seafood.

On the weekends, this place is jamming all day and night, so get there early if you want a seat. Weekdays are a bit more relaxed, but it does fill up around 11:00pm, so if you plan on eating, try to get there before 9pm so you can get a table and a primo people-watching seat. If it is on a Monday night, you will more than likely see me there with a face stuffed with crab. Enjoy!
