Judge Joseph Dredd is a fictional comic strip character from the British science fiction anthology "2000 AD" and is that magazine's longest running strip. The strip ran in the second issue in 1977. Dredd is an American who is a uniformed judge in a future where judges can arrest, sentence and even execute criminals. Writer John Wagner with artist Carlos Ezquerra created the character (with help from editor Pat Mills).

Henry Flint illustrated the 10-page prologue "Dredd: Top of the World, Ma-Ma" (issue 328) which was released the same week as the 2012 film "Dredd" premiered in the UK. The prologue introduces the back story of the film's main antagonist, Ma-Ma.

The movie was directed by Pete Travis ("Vantage Point" and "Endgame") with a script by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later," "Sunshine" and "Never Let Me Go"). Karl Urban starred as the titular character ("The Lord of the Rings" and "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness") with Lena Headey ("The Remains of the Day" and "The Brothers Grimm") was the drug lord Ma-Ma.

San Diego Comic-Con begins with a Wednesday preview on 24 July 2014 and ends on 27 July 2014 at the San Diego Convention Center.
