Big balloon characters walk down Harbor Drive on Monday, Decemer 30th, starting at 10 am. Series of marching bands will take their places on the parade route until 11:45 am, and play the music drummed to step up the annual Holiday Bowl excitement.
The game kickoff comes at 7:15 pm. The floating characters, Shamu to Mother Goose, that add up to "America's largest big balloon parade," tell the over 100,000 person crowd the year's story. Drill teams set up the work on step time.
Local celebrities to see on painted and decorated floats, and in parade cars, join the hundreds of volunteers who handle the balloons and carry the marching banners. Volunteers 15 and older walk the balloons down the route from the north end of the County Administration Complex on Harbor Drive, past the grandstands at the Maritime Museum, and down to the Pacific Highway intersection south past Broadway. In the marching lines, the banner carriers as young as 5 years old blaze the trail.
The National University Holiday Bowl production is sponsored by San Diego Credit Union and Cox Communications.
Morning work teams run the annual Wienerschnitzel wiener nationals and the Bumble Bee Foods 5k run. Runners cross the goal lines before the parade start at 10 am.
