In front of several hundred Ferrari customers, collectors and automotive enthusiasts, Giacomo Mattioli, team principal of Scuderia Corsa announced that both the team’s #63 and #64, 458 Italia GT3’s would soon be heading to Daytona, Florida to compete in the legendary Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Mattioli also introduced his stellar lineup of veteran drivers: 2012 Ferrari Challenge world champion Alessandro Balzan, and Alessandro Pier Guidi, fresh off his victory at the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, as well as 2010 Open GT champion, Marco Frezza and racing legend Olivier Beretta.
Speaking to the crowd about his new team and their upcoming season, Mattioli said “racing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Ferrari, combined with the talent we have put together, makes me confident that Scuderia Corsa will give fans a very competitive and exciting race to watch.”
The second 458 Italia (#64) entered for the Daytona effort will be raced in association with Brazil’s Via Italia Racing Team. The #64 will be helmed by Via Italia’s Francisco “Chico” Longo, and racing veterans, Rafa Matos, Daniel Serra and Xandinho Negrao.
Testing for the grueling 24 hour race began last weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida. The race is scheduled for January 26-27, 2013.
Mattioli also announced that Scuderia Corsa will participate in the full 2013 Grand AM season with Alessandro Balzan and Alessandro Guidi sharing duties behind the wheel of the #63.
