On Feb. 22, two scuba divers died in California while swimming off the Monterey coast at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, according to the Associated Press by way of Yahoo!.
This information was gain through California's Department of Forestry and Fire Protection unit spokesperson Daniel Berlant who said that lifeguards and firefighters tried to save the lives of the pair of divers concerned in the accident.
The area in Northern California where the incident happened is considered an extensive underwater wildlife refuge, ripe with all kinds of animals including whales undergoing migration. Also among the sea life to be discovered by diving into the deep are seals, sea lions and sea otters. This area is celebrated, named the "greatest meeting of land and water in the world" by famed artist Francis McComas.
That said, while the names of the divers who passed away after every effort was made to save them when discovered at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve are not being released at this writing, officials say that one person was male and the other female.
One of the scuba diver's bodies was discovered floating just offshore about 50 feet from the jagged rocks that appear along the coastline, a familiar and picturesque part of this rustic terrain. The other body was found on land where CPR was unsuccessfully administered.
As for how proficient these two divers were before heading down into the Pacific, that information is also not available at this time but certification is required and diving can only be done at two Point Lobos State National Reserve areas. One is Whalers Cove, the location of the place where the scuba divers were discovered and where these two adventurists died.
