Veteran screenwriter Billy Ray is in the process of editing and putting the finishing touches on the script for a movie adaptation of The Hunger Games.
The screenplay itself was written by Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins.
The LA Times reports, "Ray's script is about to come into producers, if it hasn't quietly been slipped to them already."
The next big step in translating The Hunger Games from page to screen will be finding a director. Lionsgate is producing, but so far there hasn't been any buzz about who will take the helm behind the camera lens.
And of course, fans are eager to learn who will be playing Katniss, Peeta, Gale and all the rest of the memorable Hunger Games characters.
As noted by the LA Times, the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games is poised to become the next big blockbuster franchise, following on the heels of Twilight and Harry Potter. Much like the latter, The Hunger Games also has wider appeal across both genders and a variety of age groups.
Production on The Hunger Games movie is set to begin in early 2011 -- with release set for later that year.
Before that, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Mockingjay on August 24th -- the third and final book in the series.
