Scream 4 Exclusive: Extra recalls Wes Craven experience

Today, SFE has an exclusive interview with an extra from Scream 4 (out on Blu-ray/DVD tomorrow).

Lindsay Comaianni is the daughter of Dan & Kathy Comaianni, who own The Next Chapter Bookstore & Bistro in Northville, Michigan.  The Next Chapter now lives on in infamy as the location chosen by director Wes Craven to play host to Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) book signing during her fateful homecoming to the fictional town of Woodsboro in.  Campbell, Courteney Cox & David Arquette reunited publicly to film scenes in and around the store during the film’s first weeks of production in the summer of 2010.

Not only is Comaianni featured briefly in Scream 4, but she was also treated to an unforgettable behind-the-screams experience, courtesy of Wes Craven.  Here is her story…

1) We have heard that you make an appearance as a barista in the film. Can you confirm?

I do make an appearance behind the counter. It’s very quick but was exciting to see!

2) You also got to visit the set for a wardrobe fitting, which led to an extraordinary encounter with Wes Craven. Do tell…

Meeting Wes Craven was so awesome. The week before filming my dad had been out at the store every day watching them set up. He would call me say "Courteney Cox was just here. I just met David Arquette." Finally I told him I was coming out no matter how early I had to get up. Haha. It was a very exciting day. When we went to meet the lady in wardrobe, Wes' assistant offered to take us up to set! Wes was very friendly and generous. After meeting with him he took us back to a separate room where he was watching the playbacks. He pulled up a couple directors chairs for my dad and I and we got to watch one of the high school scenes with Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere with the crew head sets and all! It’s definitely something I'll never forget!

3) Did you have an opportunity to interact with members of the cast? If so, how did you find them to be in-person?

I really didn't get a chance to get to interact with any of the cast. I wish we could have had the opportunity to meet them one on one. I did get to say a quick hi to David Arquette in between filming. He was very friendly to all of the extras. When I found out Courteney Cox was going to be in the store I was so excited. I'm a huge Friends fan! I was really hoping to get to meet her or get an autograph. The day of the filming I asked my dad if he could sneak my Friends poster in for her to sign and she did! It is something that I'll always treasure!

4) What can you tell us about security measures on-set when filming commenced at The Next Chapter Bookstore? How did the community respond to the excitement?

The security measures were really high. Each night after filming there were guards watching over the store. It was so exciting to see the people of the town gather around and watch what was going on. I think it has been a huge asset to my parents business being new! It’s fun to watch people come in the store and ask questions about the days filming took place.

5) How did you celebrate the release of SCREAM 4?

I got to hang out in the store before the screening and it was awesome. WYCD came out and did a ticket give away for the customers that came. It was fun to share my experience of the day with them. Even one of my dad's friends came dressed as ghost face. My dad had another party the next day but unfortunately I couldn't make it there since I had a prior commitment.
