Scotty McCreery will face former manager in court

Season 10 American Idol winner Scotty McCreery will soon be headed to court as his his ex-manager has filed a lawsuit for breach of contract. According to Nashville Post, Todd Cassetty of Cassetty Entertainment is suing Scotty McCreery for damages, claiming that he managed the young country singer without ever receiving fair payment for his services.

Cassetty apparently wanted the industry standard of 15-20 percent of Scotty McCreery’s gross earnings, but says he was never paid, despite promises of payment. Scotty McCreery has denied these allegations, saying:

There is no truth to these allegations. I have offered to pay Todd more than once, but he wanted an unreasonable amount for only five months of work. Anyone who knows me knows how I conduct myself, so I am not worried they will believe any of this. This is just an attempt to embarrass me and my family. The facts will come out when we have our day in court.

Though Scotty McCreery won American Idol at just 17 years old, he has always portrayed himself as a mature, honest, and down to earth young man. It would probably be fair to say that his fans would be shocked if the court ruled in his ex-manager’s favor. However, McCreery is now 19 years old and a legal adult, responsible for upholding contracts and completing business dealings according to the law. In this case though, there seems to be some question as to whether a contract was ever actually signed or whether the agreement was verbal only. Hopefully, a peaceful resolution will come quickly and find a way to satisfy both sides.
