Scott Weiland says he's not fired from STP: Solo tour stars March 1 (Video)

Is Scott Weiland fired? The frontman of Stone Temple Pilots says "no," reports TMZ on Feb. 27. The group released a statement, "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." No other reason was given. However, 45-year-old Weiland, who is set to launch a solo tour next month, says he can't be fired because he created the group.

"I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press," Weiland said in response to the statement from Stone Temple Pilots. “Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted, and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out."

STP began in 1986 and ended in 2003. In 2008, the band reformed.

Weiland's solo "Purple at the Core" tour begins in Flint, Mich. on March 1. He plays in Chicago on March 19 at the House of Blues.
