Scott Weiland officially fired from Stone Temple Pilots (Video)

The Stone Temple Pilots have fired lead singer Scott Weiland. The group posted a simple one sentence announcement on Wednesday, Feb. 27 according to TMZ reports stating, "The Stone Temple Pilots have announced that they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."

Scott Weiland is a founding member of the Stone Temple Pilots, and has announced that he plans to begin a solo tour in March, which will include songs from the grunge bands first two albums, "Core" and "Purple."

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone Weiland stated that the band had been going through a rocky period.

“My personal feeling is that we need some new blood in the band,” he said. “We’ve been playing the same greatest hits set since we got back together. I’d like to make a new record. It will breathe new life into the group.”

He added his views had created some tension in the group: “There were some hurt egos. But that’s the way it is.”Stone Temple Pilots has unceremoniously FIRED its lead singer Scott Weiland ... who's been the face of the seminal rock band for more than 20 years.

The Stone Temple Pilots are best known for their on hits including "Plush," "Sour Girl," and "Sex Type Thing."

Massive rumors of a split between STP and Scott Weiland began circulating several weeks ago after former Guns N' Roses member Slash stated to a Minneapolis radio station that STP had fired Weiland because of conflict and drama within the group.

A rep for Scott Weiland could not be reached for comment but a spokesperson for STP stated that detailed information about the split would be forthcoming.
