Given that Lively had already come to this column's attention for allegedly pursuing legislation in Uganda to have homosexuality punishable by death, referring to the Center for Constitutional Rights as a "demonic organization" and insisting that Obama is the antichrist, Lively's anti-choice stance should hardly come as a surprise.
What may be surprising instead is how, much like Gordon Klingenschmitt's list of seven ways gay marriage hurts Christian marriage, Lively's list has been padded with additional talking points which he can neither support nor defend.
Lively begins with the usual anti-choice talking points about abortion being murder, which he defends with quotations from other sources.
Reasons 5-7, however, Lively insists "are statements of self-evident truth," which is wingnut speak for "unjustifiable, so I made no attempt whatsoever."
5. Because legalized abortion robs fathers of their fundamental rights as parents, and their Biblical authority as heads of their households.
6. Because women are degraded and harmed by the choice to kill their own children.
7. Because even in the case of rape or incest, a child must never be required to pay for the sins of his father.
Either Lively cannot explain why he feels a man's rights should take full priority over a woman's, why this stance is not even more degrading to women, or why the mother should "be required to pay for the sins of the father" instead, or he knows full well that that these "statements of self-evident truth" are anything but and couldn't care less.
