The final episode of Hell’s Kitchen Season 12 aired July 24, 2014 on the Fox TV network. It was a battle between Jason Zapaltas and Scott Commings to see who would take home the $250,000 salary and head chef title at Gordon Ramsay’s at Cesar’s Palace. This season—he who controls the kitchen wins the title.
Chef Ramsay was quoted in the Chicago Tribune on July 25, 2014 about the winner:
“Scott won tonight because he has all the qualities I’m looking for in a head chef,” Ramsay, the volcanic British celebrity chef, said on the show. “He is passionate, determined and a true leader. He’s an artist plating food and he has a phenomenal palate. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s got a great career ahead of him.”
Scott won the final Hell’s Kitchen challenge; giving him first pick from the returning contestants. His choice of contestants and control of the kitchen led him to victory. Noticeably missing from the returning contestants was Joy. She walked out during the final five competition.
When things started to head south in Scott’s kitchen, he had no problem removing Jessica Vogel from the garnish station. She could not get the garnish up to Scott’s standards. Commings made the right decision by throwing her out of his kitchen.
Jason had problems in the kitchen too. Sandra Flores was the cause of his problems. Again, it was a garnish issue—Flores could care less about the outcome of the competition and it showed. Zapaltas chose to ride out the problem and let Flores stay. It cost him the competition.
Both men had an impeccable menu. It was not an issue of food quality, but getting food out of the kitchen. With

Scott Commings wins Hell’s Kitchen. This gives him the grand prize of head chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Pub & Grill at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. The job comes with a yearly salary of $250,000. Commings knows that this will be a wonderful opportunity for him and his family.
