The country has been waiting for the results of the special election in Massachusetts Tuesday. Ted Kennedy’s US senate seat will be replaced tonight with either Scott Brown or Martha Coakley.
CNN reported at 9 pm that over half the votes had been counted and Republican Scott Brown had a solid lead over Coakley. Brown has 53% of the votes, Coakley 46%. Coakley has not won any of the polls in the last few days.
The entire nation has been interested in this election because if Brown wins, he has already said that he will vote no for the health care bill and that may be the vote republicans need to overturn it.
President Obama, former President Clinton and Ted Kennedy’s wife have been heavily campaigning over the last few days for Coakley.
It was estimated earlier this week that nearly half of 4.5 million Massachusetts voters would turn out and vote; and 100,000 early absentee ballots were received, according to CNN.
Massachusetts democrats were out in full force today calling thousands of people to remind them to vote for Martha. So far that approach doesn’t appear to be working.
The vote in Massachusetts has national implications that could affect every American, and people across the nation are watching to see what happens. See the CNN video below for what led up to today's election.
In Utah, both Senator Bennett and Senator Hatch voted against the Health Care bill. Senator Bennett said that the overwhelming cost is the main reason for his no vote, and the dishonesty that has been involved in the cost. He said that the bill called for six years of benefits, and ten years of taxes and those numbers do not add up.
