ScotsFest at the Queen Mary in Long Beach returns

ScotsFest on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 17 marks the 20th Annual Highland Games and Festival at the historic Queen Mary ship in Long Beach. Grab your kilt and become immersed in Celtic food, games and fun.

"We’re really excited for the 20th Anniversary of the Queen Mary’s ScotsFest and have some incredible entertainment and activities lined up to help celebrate this special year,” said Steve Sheldon, director of entertainment events at the Queen Mary in an email.

Again, this event will be devoted to all things plaid and Scottish in celebration of where the Queen Mary originated. The popular activities such as the Caber Toss, Sheepherding and Whiskey Tasting return along with some new additions.

“We’ve added quite a few new activities and features to the event this year,” said Sheldon.

There will be even more whiskey to taste as well as a Craft Beer Tastings area and a new concert called “Rock Yer Kilt”. The performance will take place Saturday night from 6 p.m. to midnight and will feature four venues of live Celtic rock entertainment.

In addition to the new adult features at ScotsFest, the Kid’s Zone will return along with more games and activities.

“We’ve expanded the children’s activity area to include a trackless train, craft activities and ‘Wee Highland Games’ that will allow kids to participate in some of the traditional Scottish athletic activities,” said Sheldon.

The Vendor Village also returns with its rows of tents that will be selling traditional Scottish wear and jewelry. The jewelry is typically adorned with Celtic symbolism representing love, luck, prosperity or something else for the soul.

Step outside of the hustle and bustle of the greater Los Angeles area this weekend and watch the authentic Scottish clans play their bagpipes or show off your muscles by joining in the traditional games. ScotsFest is an event for the whole family.

Admission to the festival includes access to the decks of the Queen Mary.

Several packages are available for those who want to stay aboard the ship for the weekend. Visit http://www.queenmary.com/scotsfest/packages.php for different options.

One day admission to ScotsFest is $18 for adults and $8 for children five to 11. Two day admission is $24 for adults and $14 for kids. Children under four are free.

Prices will vary if purchased at the event. Please visit http://www.queenmary.com/scotsfest/ for more information about ScotsFest.
