The Schenectady County village of Scotia s losing an Asian buffet, but isn't losing a restaurant. Joseph Chan, owner of the Dragon Garden Restaurant, on Tuesday announced he is retiring after 37 years.

Chan is turning the operation over to family members who will close the operation for several months to re-do the interior and exterior then reopen as the Jade Asian Bistro. The menu will retain many of the Dragon Garden's sushi, Japanese and Thai dishes along with a special Asian fusion section and an extensive cocktail menu, according to a news release via the Chamber of Schenectady County.

"Unfortunately," the announcement explains, "the restaurant will no longer be serving the buffet due to the extreme difficulty of providing a consistent quality product on steam tables, let alone all the waste at the end of the evening. The restaurant strives to provide the freshest ingredients made-to-order, and a buffet simply cannot do that."

The restaurant is located at 120 Mohawk Avenue. Phone: 377-6637
