The NASL Soccerbowl hosts, the Atlanta Silverbacks made their way to San Antonio and it was an impressive performance from the Scorpions as they managed a 1-0 win.

"We want three points every game, so we go after teams, today maybe wasn't our best game but we grinded out the result." said Alen Marcina after the match.

Both teams looked to attack early but took some time to get their touches right as they both gave up possession too easily in the early stages.

In the 11th minute the Scorpions had a good opportunity as a quickly taken free-kick from Vucko found a wide open Walter Ramirez who crossed along the ground but saw a defender get a touch sending it out for a corner that Atlanta cleared.

In the 18th minute new signing Sainey Touray made his debut for the Scorpions, joining Dennis Chin after Hans Dennis was unable to shake off his injury from a heavy collision with Atlanta Keeper Joe Nasco.

"All three of those new guys made a big impact, they've only been with us for a few days, so it was great." said Marcina about the three new players who all got time for the Scorpions on Saturday night.

The Scorpions forced a stunning save out of Nasco in the 20th minute when Saavedra sent a free-kick over the top of the Atlanta defense finding Greg Janicki whose header was held by the Atlanta keeper.

San Antonio continued to dominate and in the 27th minute as Walter Ramirez put a through ball for Lyle Martin who was able to cross in for Touray only for Atlanta to get a boot in ahead for a corner that was cleared.

The Scorpions had another chance one minute later on a dangerous counter as Martin crossed for Tomasz Zahorski only for Nasco to come up with another phenomenal save and tip it over the bar.

There was a tense moment in the 33rd minute when Martin ploughed through Milton Blanco and was shown a yellow card for what was a very physical challenge as the physicality of the match ramped up.

A beautiful long ball from Edin Husic found Martin who ran at the keeper after getting through with a perfectly timed run but his shot was too tame allowing Nasco an easy save.

Atlanta really started to be the more dominant side towards the end of the first half but their finishing was poor as the half ended scoreless.

Atlanta came out from the break determined to make an impact getting off to a good start pressuring the Scorpions defense from the opening whistle.

A corner fell for Atlanta in the 52nd minute as the ball dropped to William Hunt who had time to take a touch but sent his shot over the bar.

A series of corners saw Atlanta get a good chance as Richie Menjivar was allowed to run from the corner in to the box allowing him to chip and find Shane Moroney whose header went out off the crossbar.

The Scorpions had a great opportunity as Touray was put clean through only for Atlanta's defense to scramble back and force a corner, deflecting the shot wide.

They didn't have to wait long for their chance as from the corner Zahorski got his head on the end of it, scoring the goal that put the Scorpions up front.

"Tomasz is a top class striker for the league and ... is the top scorer for this half of the season, and scored a vital one for us tonight." reflected Marcina.

That seemed to spark the Scorpions after they were looking outplayed for the opening 15 minutes of the half as they looked to get on the offensive and go for another goal.

Touray continued his impressive debut in the 75th minute when he got on the end of fellow debutant Ciaran O'Brien's cross and headed to goal only for Nasco to make another impressive save.

Atlanta pushed in the closing stages but couldn't get past the Scorpions defense as they recorded their second straight home win.
