The San Antonio Scorpions have their first point of the 2013 Fall season as they managed to hold on with ten men for a scoreless draw in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night.
Fort Lauderdale got off to a great start earning a corner almost instantly before Martin Nunez saw his effort in to the side netting.
San Antonio got in to the match after the first ten minutes and 12 minutes in Walter Ramirez nearly put his side up as he hit a powerful strike after a clearance fell to him but he was denied by a superb save.
Fort Lauderdale had a good passage but the Scorpions had the next clear chance as Hans Denissen hit another impressive shot but again an incredible save denied the Scorpions but the rebound fell to Javier Saavedra whose effort look destined for the back of the net only to be cleared off the line.
There was little other action in a tight half that ended scoreless with the Scorpions continuing to look much improved.
The Scorpions were lucky not to concede ten minutes in to the half as they left Mark Anderson wide open in the box but he sent his header wide of the mark letting the Scorpions off the hook.
The Scorpions had an impressive passage of play in response as they worked the ball up the field for Borja Rubiato who had a disappointing finish as he hit it right at the keeper.
For the third straight week the Scorpions saw a man sent off as Stephen DeRoux was shown a straight red for his challenge on Walter Restrepo in the 63rd minute.
That lead to a period of dominance for Fort Lauderdale but they were unable to find a goal as the Scorpions managed to maintain possession and continue Alen Marcina's trend of going on the attack despite being down a man.
