The San Antonio Scorpions have finally broken their duck as they got their first win of the Fall season on Saturday as they managed a 2-1 win against Carolina at Toyota Field on Saturday night.
Carolina were always facing a tough match as they were without the league leading goal scorer Brian Shriver and the assist leader Austin da Luz.
It was a dramatic win as Hans Denissen got back to his goal scoring form with a penalty in stoppage time from the Dutchman giving the Scorpions the win.
The match didn't start very well as the Scorpions conceded in just the 14th minute as a free-kick in the corner was sent from Kenney Walker for Kevin Rutkiewicz who headed home the opener.
The Scorpions have a horrible record when going behind and so they went for the match trying desperately to pull back to level terms with Borja Rubiato looking dangerous but struggling to hit the target.
Carolina managed to hit the back of the net as a Jeremy Vuolo save was tapped away and scored with a tap-in only for the flag to be up for offside.
Despite that missed opportunity the sides head to the break ahead as the Scorpions were unable to put any of their chances away.
In the 53rd minute Thomas Zahorski continued his impressive run of form for the Scorpions as he was able to receive a pass at the top of the box, turning and shooting after Denissen's work put him through.
Zack Schilawsiki looked to take the place of Shriver as he got plenty of chances away including double chances in the 76th minute as he had a shot deflected that fell right back to him only for his effort to cannon off the post.
Carolina looked to be on top in a tight match but in stoppage time a handball gave the Scorpions the opportunity allowing Denissen to send Akira Fitzgerald and win the match for the Scorpions.
