The Tigres fan army came to San Antonio again as they saw their team manage a 2-1 victory over San Antonio Scorpions at Toyota Field on Saturday night.
San Antonio may have been out played early on the Scorpions had the first chance in the 5th minute as Billy Forbes was able to get behind and sent a cross along the ground which couldn’t find a team-mate.
Tigres started the match the better side and eight minutes in they had their first chance of the match as Jorge Torres sent in a ball for Emmanuel Villa who put in an impressive header to open the scoring, leaving Tyler Deric groping at thin air.
That didn’t stop Tigres, they continued to threaten the Scorpions goal, but their keeper on loan from Houston Dynamo, Deric, was able to stay strong to keep Tigres out.
In the 21st minute Gerardo Lugo was played through one-on-one and should have scored but Deric came up strong to deny the Tigres man.
Tigres continued to attack and in the 26th minute as Vendrechovsky was able to get a powerful shot away which was denied by another solid save from Deric at full stretch.
Deric’s good work kept the score down to just the one at half-time which kept the team still in the hunt as the match headed to the second half.
Tigres started the second half well and 13 minutes in to the half they doubled their lead as Damian Alvarez squared the ball for Lugo who was able to tap-in the second.
In the 65th minute the Scorpions were able to pull a goal back as Jonathan Borrajo crossed in for Billy Forbes who saw his effort fumbled by the keeper, dropping in to the back of the net.
The Scorpions pushed hard in the final 20 minutes but the Tigres defense proved just solid enough to keep San Antonio out as the match ended 2-1.
