** The San Antonio Soccer Examiner has three tickets to next week's USA v Australia match at the Alamodome to give away, details on how to win are at the bottom of the article**
The result gets the Scorpions in to double figures for points, at 10, now just one point behind Edmonton in second last and marks the first time in the season they have won two matches in a row.
With the two teams sitting at the bottom of the NASL table it was never going to be the greatest match and as the heavens in the build up to kick-off all hopes of a block-buster went out the window.
Sainey Touray built on his solid form from his debut last week, showing why there is MLS interest in the striker as he continually headed for good positions but just could not hit the back of the net in the slippery conditions.
Edmonton were looking most dangerous on the counter attack and in the 26th minute could well have snuck the lead as Corey Herzog gained possession up the field forcing a solid save out of Jeremy Vuolo.
In the 40th minute San Antonio had the lead as Javier Saavedra stole possession from Massimo Mirabelli allowing him to get forward and cross for the red hot Tomasz Zahorski who easily scored the opener.
In stoppage time Zahorski nearly made it two as he was able to get another solid chance away but Lance Parker was alert to the danger and made the save.
The Scorpions had the bulk of the second half possession but it was Edmonton who had the first clear chance of the half as Chris Nurse found possession on the edge of the area but his effort was denied by Vuolo.
With just over 20 minutes to play the Scorpions very nearly made it two as Tourey's header off of a corner looked certain to score only for Edmonton to hack it off the line, relieving pressure.
The match was all but sealed in the 85th minute after a heavy challenge from Eddie Edward saw him shown a straight red card for his challenge on Pat Phelan.
There was still some late drama with lightning hitting the nearby area the referee decided to postpone stoppage time until it had cleared leading the teams off the field for a 30 minute delay which only postponed the inevitable Scorpions victory.
