Scorpions announce sponsors

San Antonio Scorpions FC announced two sponsorship deals, while refusing to acknowledge the issues facing the NASL this afternoon.

Gordon Hartman continued to refer to the NASL as "the highest level below MLS" despite the fact that despite the fact that last week the NASL had its division 2 sanctioning revoked.

Of course the NASL could well be division 2 come 2012 when the Scorpions begin play, and obviously Hartman would hope this is the case, yet right now it is not even a sanctioned league.

The Scorpions announced a partnership with Harvey Najim who launched the concept of Harvey's Heros a tremendous opportunity in line with Hartman's goals of promoting Special Needs children as Harvey's Heros will put aside 500 seats in the stadium in every match for Special Needs people of all ages and underprivilaged children.

The most significant sponsorship news was the support of Nike, with many soccer fans and mainstream Journalists in San Antonio applauding the move saying it is a tremendous step forward. Indeed Nike do make fantastic kits and the Scorpions will look fantastic playing in them and it affirms Nike's support of soccer in the United States at all levels.

The unfortunate side for the Scorpions is that it appears Nike's deal isn't as great as it seems to be, with sources suggesting that the deal with the San Antonio Scorpions being less than Nike currently gives the USL clubs.

Nike's choice of sponsorship money is a clear statement on the state of the NASL compared to the USL, a soccer war is brewing and San Antonio has well & truly become the center.
