Score some deals on snowboarding equipment

If you've waited to buy snowboarding or other snow-related gear, you're in luck: Local stores are starting to put their stuff on sale.

Hoigards, of St. Louis Park, has announced what might be called a "going, going, gone" sale: As the sale continues, the prices drop, though so does the selection. You can save 25 percent off prices now, 35 percent starting February 15, and 50 percent on March 1. Pickings will probably be slim come March, so you'll probably want to get there before then. Also note, though, there are a number of significant exclusions, probably due to minimum-pricing requirements of equipment companies. These include Burton, K2, and Ride.

Don't forget your local ski hill, though. The selection may not be as good as at a retail shop, and you may not always get the best prices, but if you stop in the shop every so often, you can pick up some accessories such as helmets, goggles, and hand and feet warmers for a decent price. Sometimes, simply having goods on hand to buy, at any price, can be helpful, like when the hill has snow-globe conditions and you've left your goggles at home.
