Summer is here in metro Detroit at full strength and that can only mean one thing: Motor City Shakedown 9 is right around the corner. This first weekend Detroit tradition is set to rock the motor city from Friday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 4th. Events will range from the simple to the sublime and will feature over 100 scooters and riders from around the midwest and beyond. Be sure to visit the event website and the pre-registration page to get set-up. Still $15 (pre-reg) and $20 (at the rally) for the best bargain of any rally!
Here's a rundown of planned events for MCSD 9:
Friday, August 2nd - Meet and greet event at The Stonehouse, Detroit's oldest and best biker bar and home of a ton of atmosphere (and a resident bar cat). An optional night ride is scheduled for around 9pm. Post Stonehouse, there is a late night bonfire down the street at the grounds of Theatre Bizarre's original location. After that, get some rest because you've got a big day on Saturday.
Saturday, August 3rd - Join up for the famous Rover breakfast put on again this year by Rovers Sally and Charlie at The Rust Belt Market in downtown Ferndale. Have some breakfast and take a walk around the Rust Belt to see some cool and freaky work from local artists and makers. Breakfast will be followed by the main ride - this time it's back to the "sticks" on a 20 Lakes Ride. Scooters will leave Ferndale with our traditional police escort and head west on a gorgeous trip around some of Metro Detroit's amazing lakes. Mid-ride, riders will be stopping at The White Lake Inn for pizza and drinks at their Tiki Bar before heading back to the Ferndale Area. The ride is about 70 miles and will be getting back to the Ferndale area between 5 and 6pm. After the ride, attendees can head to Ferndale's One Eyed Betty's for dinner or you can relax back at your hotel for a few hours till the evening activities.
Saturday Night at 8pm – Meet the gang at “Jam Handy” on East Grand Blvd in Detroit. There will be DJ's, dancing and maybe even karaoke, until the early hours. This is a place that you have to see to believe and you will remember this experience. Around midnight, grab your raffle tickets to see if you won a raffle bag or the big Kahuna - a 1966 Sears Blue Badge Vespa 150!
August 4th - Sunday. It's time to recover, pack up and say goodbye for another year, but first, join the Rovers on Sunday morning for breakfast at The Imperial on Woodward Ave in Ferndale. Great food, delicious drinks and a killer atmosphere will make your trip home just a little bit better.
What are you doing in two weeks? Come and see Detroit, you'll never forget it.
