In an article published on Jan. 8 at Science20.com, blogger Hank Campbell insists that the anti-GMO food movement is a form of eco-terrorism. Applauding the work of science, Campbell claims that the movement that “counted on liberals quietly enduring them” will soon have few allies among moderate, ‘thinking’ people once the public understands the science behind GMO crops.
As it turns out, Campbell is not alone. His comments echo that of Keith Kloor, a Bloomberg writer, who on Jan. 7 denounced the anti-GMO movement and the news media for promoting the possible ills of consuming genetically modified crops. Accusing the movement of fear-mongering, he notes that recent science research shows few ill effects, if any, from GMO foods.
According to both authors, the use of bad science and a recent attempt at uprooting crops at a British, government funding agricultural project is a sign the movement has gone too far.
“Science gives us little to nothing to worry about from GMOs regarding food safety, and yet it’s too easy to scream, “Frankenfood!,” Kloor stated.
“Anti-science people, left and right, are uniformly social authoritarians as well,” Campbell added. “But as we are seeing, that Emperor has no clothes. Keep up the good work, science.”
